Be on the lookout!!!

CrazyBeautiful Clothing Online is coming! In the meantime stalk our Facebook!

For those that are living under a rock, CrazyBeautiful is Memphis' #1 Women's Clothing Boutique for the past 3 years (Thanks Memphis Flyer readers!). We've been growing since the fall of 2006 and have no plans of stopping until world domination.

Latest trends, new brands and weekly sales are filling the inbox of eager ladies every Monday morning. Here's one from April...

We did a small photoshoot for Easter and Spring Apparel (thank you Mary Katherine for enduring the heat and wardrobe changing in a jeep!)

Marshall Grant of the Tennessee Two

Tonight I will be attending the event: Up Close & Personal with Marshall Grant of Johnny Cash and The Tennessee Two! I'm so excited for this. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity seeing as how tonight, in Memphis, Mr. Grant will be retiring from music. He will never again do another interview or play for the public. He has said, that at 82 years old, he would like to spend the rest of his time with his family.

Luther Perkins, Johnny Cash, and Marshall Grant in 1955

Grant was the upright bassist in the backing band for Johnny Cash. Not only did he record with Cash from 1954-1980, he was also his tour manager. The two's friendship suffered difficulties and Grant ended up being fired by Cash. Thankfully years later they reconciled.

Who Shot Rock & Roll...

by Bob Gruen - Joe Strummer & Gaby - Kiss On Car - NYC, 1981

If you're in Memphis you MUST GO SEE THIS EXHIBIT!! It's at the Brooks Museum until September 26th. No excuses to miss it - every Wednesday is Pay What You Can!

About the exhibit (from the Brooks site):
Who Shot Rock & Roll: A Photographic History, 1955 to the Present is an exhibition about the men and women who have photographed one of the
most important cultural revolutions ever, rock and roll. The music needed images to communicate its message of rebellion, freedom, and personal reinvention. The best photography of rock is skillful, sensual, sexy, creative, compelling, and underrated.

Lucky bastard! Hmph.

Pardon my french... but damn! This guy has the world at his disposal now.

Ten years ago Rick Norsigian bought a case of glass negatives for $45 from a garage sale. He had never seen glass negatives before but thought, what the hell. Well, they ended up belonging to no other than ANSEL ADAMS! Yes, that Ansel Adams, the famed nature photographer. The $45 bargain purchase is now worth an estimated $200 million!

Think Norsigian would be down to fund a young up and coming, just graduated, photographer's dream?? Eh? Maybe?

I studied Ansel Adams in various art history courses in college, so I've come to know his work well. His piece Autumn Moon remains to be my favorite:

Ill with want and poisoned by this ugly greed

I am in love with
The Avett Brothers.

The first I had heard of them was a couple years ago when I stumbled upon this live video of theirs for 'The Ballad of Love and Hate' off of Emotionalism.

How could you not fall in love? This video is the definition of pure passion. Props to the college film crew who shot it. When I first found it, I probably watched a dozen times in one sitting.

Capture Memphis!

Capture Memphis is back. Through the Commercial Appeal and a few other outlets, Capture Memphis is a photography book of Memphis. It was first issued a couple years ago. There's a photo contest online, you submit and vote. The more you vote for others the more your name (& photos) get out there, so the more votes you'll probably generate. Out of thousands of photos, only about 200 are chosen. Unfortunately the first time around, none of my photos made the book. But 2 of my photos did however make the DVD that accompanied the book. So that's something.

Well it's time for round 2. There are about 2 more months left to submit & vote. So for whoever stumbles upon this sad excuse for a blog in the near future - PLEASE GO VOTE FOR ME!!

Thanks :)

and she returns...

Bonjour! Been more than a minute since I've visited this thing. That habit of scribbling on scraps of paper on what band I just heard for the first time, or artist I just discovered will soon cease. This place, this blog, will be my scrap of paper. I hope.

A lot has changed. In my life, the world.

Updates soon...

For now, it's summer. Happy 4th.

Xoxo.
